Past Quartermaster and Senior Vice Commander Robert H. Shimel (85), beloved husband and father, loving grandfather and great-father passed away December 6, 2017.
Robert was born December 28, 1931 in Bay City, MI, the second child of Harris R. and Cecilia A. Shimel. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korean War Veteran. Robert was a Journeyman Painter at Dow Corning in Midland, MI. He married the love of his life Virginia A. Wagner on September 29, 1956. They moved from Bay City, MI to Mesa, AZ with their 4 children in 1972. Together they owned and operated RH Shimel Builders for over 30 years.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, and his brothers Richard, James, Terry and Harris (Cork). He is survived by his sister, Judy Shimel, daughters, Mary Turrubiartes, husband Marco, Diane Grubbs, husband Marc, Cynthia Wedding, husband Dennis, son Robert J. Shimel, wife Kristie; 5 grandchildren, their spouses and 5 great grandchildren.
Always the “entertainer” Robert will best be remembered for his quick wit and the ability to make those around him laugh. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church (1551 E. Dana Avenue, Mesa, AZ) with a private family entombment service at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to Christ the King Catholic Church H.O.P.E. outreach.
