Memorial Day Activities on Saturday May 27th and Monday May 29th. Remember that “Many hands make light work” and these are activities that are very important not just to use but to the community and the families of those that have passed that we are honoring. Please pass the word to your people, put it on your calendars, and lets see a GREAT turnout this year for ALL the events.
This year on October 15th the Mesa VFW with a few of their Navy Veterans put together for the first time a Navy Birthday Celebration. There was much to enjoy with honors conducted by both the Black Eagles Squadron and the Phoenix Division Sea Cadet Corps., a historical overview, a special visit by active duty AO Petty Officer 3rd Class Jessica Portillo, video presentations along with food, music and ceremonial toast for all Navy Veterans in attendance from a ceremonial keg. It was the first US Navy Birthday Celebration event conducted at the Mesa VFW and we look forward to more to come.
This year we had a great Memorial Day with all those involved. Saturday, we had a great turnout at Mesa Cemetery of about 75 people to help with getting the flags out on the veteran gravestones. And on Monday morning we had a great ceremony that was organised by our own Chaplain Frank ‘Gunny’ Alger. A big Bravo Zulu to you comrade on a job well done!
