This year Post 1760 had a unique situation for both of our APA pool teams at Post 1760 that had not ever happened before. In January this year Post 1760’s pool league team “Dode’s 8” did well in the Tri-City tournament that qualified for the City tournament. Last month Post 1760’s other pool league team “V-8’s” also did well in their Tri-City tournament and had also qualified for the same big tournament.

The process: A scheduled session lasts about 3-4 months and players play each week, with a total of 3 sessions per year. The Tri-City tournaments are held after each session that include winners from their respective division’s session (this of course equates to 3 Tri-City tournaments each year). Top winners in the Tri-City tournaments qualify for the once a year City Tournament weekend held in June. There are 24 teams from all over the valley that compete in three separate brackets in a double elimination format. The team winner from each bracket (3 teams) qualifies to compete in the National competition in Las Vegas later this summer with cash, trophies and travel provided in part for.

This past Saturday was the scheduled start of the City Tournament, and things got started in the morning with an 8:40am preliminary meeting for all players going over rules, with league tournament starting at 9am. After many games of play, at around 5:30pm on that Saturday it is unfortunate to report that both of Post 1760’s were eliminated. In summation it was a good year of playing for all that participated, and that a big Congratulations go out to both teams and their supporters that had put a lot of time, $$$ and effort into the last few sessions that lead up to the big City Tournament. It was definitely a great season to remember for all involved.
